Golf's Cameron Wells named FCB Athlete of the Week for Feb. 9

WETUMPKA, Ala. - Golf's Cameron Wells has been selected as the First Community Bank Athlete of the Week for February 9. Wells' Athlete of the Week selection comes after her first golf match of her senior season, where she won the Golfer of the Day award. The Golfer of the Day award is voted on by members of the golf team, a new tradition under Coach Hutto, a first for this season. Wells won the award not because of a low score, but rather a display of the sportsmanship that the sport of golf places a heavy emphasis on. The Senior was paired with two fresh golfers- ones that were competing in their first ever golf matches, one of whom had never played golf before. Throughout the match, Wells taught her playing partners all about golf etiquette- how to mark a ball, how to tee off, the rules of golf, how to manage the course properly, all while cheering them on as their biggest fan. Coach Hutto sang her praises after the match. "Cam did not play her best game, and that is OK," said Hutto. "She put others ahead of herself, showed leadership skills, showed patience, and at the end of the day, being that person meant more than her score. As a coach, I will take this over a low score any day."
