WR Deon Floyd Named FCB Athlete of the Week for Sept. 7
Floyd racked up 118 yards and a touchdown on just 7 touches in Friday night's 32-6 win over Rehobeth. Presented by First Community Bank.
WETUMPKA, Ala. — Senior Deon Floyd has been selected as the First Community Bank Athlete of the Week for September 7.
The senior wide receiver took over a fourth-quarter possession and turned it into one of the most impressive stretches of the night, helping the Indians finish off a 32-6 victory and improve to 3-0 on the season.
Floyd finished with 86 rushing yards and a touchdown on just five carries, averaging more than 17 yards per attempt. He also caught two passes for 32 yards, giving him 118 yards from scrimmage on only seven touches.
Most of that damage came when Wetumpka was looking to put the game out of reach.
With the Indians leading 26-6 late in the third quarter, Floyd entered the backfield and immediately began moving the offense. He broke loose for a big gain on his first carry before adding another chunk run as Wetumpka crossed midfield.
The Indians kept feeding him.
Floyd powered through defenders, showed patience behind his blockers and broke another run into the open field before eventually finishing the drive with a touchdown early in the fourth quarter. The scoring march was dominated almost entirely by Floyd, who carried the ball on each of the drive’s plays.
His touchdown extended Wetumpka’s lead to 32-6 and effectively put the game away.
Floyd’s performance also showed the depth of a Wetumpka backfield that has received contributions from several players through the first three weeks.
On a night when Rehobeth made things difficult between the tackles, Floyd brought a different element with his combination of speed, patience and physical running.
Seven touches were all he needed to make his presence felt.
Floyd and the Indians will host the Russell County Warriors (3-0, 1-0) on Friday, Sept. 11.
