Indians' Defense Shines in 19-0 Victory Over Andalusia
Wetumpka Football began its season with a 19-0 victory over the Andalusia Bulldogs, handing them their first home loss in 3 seasons. The Indians pitched a shutout for the first time since 2016.
ANDALUSIA, Ala. -- The Wetumpka Indians football team checked a huge box off its list of goals for the new football season with a shutout on the road against Andalusia High School, Defeating the Bulldogs 19–0.
The Tribe’s defense impressed in its opening victory, recording its first shutout since a 35-0 victory against Eufaula in 2016. Led by its defensive line, the Indians recorded 5 sacks and 8 tackles for a loss. Junior Zyon Robinson tallied 11 total tackles, with 3 sacks and 4 tackles for a loss. Cayden Carlisle added 2 sacks along with 9 total tackles. Jordan Bracy racked up 6 solo tackles and 2 assists.
On the other side of the ball, it was the ground game that shined for the Black and Gold. In his first varsity start, Sophomore running back Karsen Tate shined with 74 yards and 2 touchdowns on 13 carries. Quarterback Charlie Skipper sealed the game on a 34-yard touchdown run on a 4th & 12 with a minute to go in the game. He totaled 95 yards on the ground and another 140 yards through the air.
Wide receiver Deon Floyd began his senior campaign with an impressive display of 107 receiving yards on just 3 receptions.
The victory in Andalusia gives Wetumpka an impressive start to the 2026 season and provides the Indians with plenty of momentum heading into Week 2.
Coach Woods and the Indians (1-0) will travel to Tallassee to take on the Tigers (0-1) for the 71st meeting between the programs. The game will be broadcast on 105.1 WRFS and the Wetumpka Sports Network YouTube and Facebook page, with coverage at 6:30 PM and kickoff at 7:00 PM.
